Monsters under the bed can be real, even for university students
[It's getting to Maya's "that time" of the month again.
...No, not that time. The other time. You know, that time when the nights seem to grow long and restless, and as much as Maya tosses and turns she just can't get comfortable, the growing prickly, antsy feelings in her gut making it difficult to doze off (even when Maya can usually sleep through fire alarms, uni dormmates having loud sex on the other side of the paper-thin walls, drunken rowdy roommates staggering in singing lewd out of tune versions of pop songs after a night of drinking, and pretty much any other noise thing university-living can throw at a tired students).
After sleeping through most of her classes (at various points with her face in her tentacles/a book/her lunch), Maya knows it's that time again to follow her octopus instincts and swim off from her own dorm to find a new den.
And lo! That brings us to where we are now. How Maya managed to get into Sam's room without his keycard is unclear — how she was apparently able to make her entrance and departure several times over, if the number of her own pillows and bed covers neatly wound into a comfortable nest under Sam's bed is anything to go by, is even more so. Maya mumbles to herself in her sleep, wrapping her tentacles even closer around herself. There's little gap between her and the support-beams of the underside of the bed, but Maya feels secure in the tiny dark space. Ain't no way she's waking up for a while.]

[Honestly, most of the classes kind of bored him. Sitting through math and physics and all those science classes he had to take for general requirements was just like pulling his teeth out. The English class, that he liked. He had already went to the library to grab the necessary books, and finally was going to get the rest he deserved, maybe even start reading a bit.]
[He doesn't even notice anything amiss at first - he's too busy reading the back of one of the books as he opens the door - and just walks inside, putting his backpack on the ground and his books on the desk. He takes off his shoes, his jacket, and turns to his bed-]
[And then screams like a girl when he sees what has become of his lovely bed. Home sweet home, indeed.]
[He also falls back out of shock and kind of grabs one of the books for defense because WOW WHAT IS GOING ON HELP POLICE HEEEEELLLLP. But all he can manage to croak out is:]
W-what the hell?!?!

How did she get into my...room...?
[Sam lets out a relieved sigh, glad that it's not what he thought it was, before he gets up to his feet and walks up closer to her. Then, he carefully reaches and...taps her on the shoulder.]
Uh...hello? H-h-hi? Maya, please, um, wake up. You're under my bed.

Maya murmurs something incomprehensible as she opens her eyes and squints blearily at the face before her. It's taking a moment for her sleep addled brain to wind back into action, but once it does, Maya blinks, opening her mouth to speak but finding a yawn pressing its way out before any of her words can beat it to it. Maya may not have any fangs, but she can sure open her mouth wide.]
Hiiiiiii Sam... I already know that I'm under your bed — I was the one to come and sleep under here, so of course I know! But I was having a nice dream and then you came and woke me up from it. What's the matter?

Well, um, how to put this...[He sighs.] You're not exactly supposed to be under my bed. Like, this is my room. You...have your own room to sleep in, right, Maya? [A pause. Perhaps...?] Is...everything alright where you live, Maya?
